I am excited to share my first article as Lead Expert of the URBACT C.ALL Transfer Network, exploring how Komotini’s remarkable journey towards becoming a Komotini – City for All is now inspiring and shaping change across Europe.

Over the past months, I have had the privilege of working with #Jaroslaw #SanLucido Bratislava – hlavné mesto SR #Dubrovnik #Galway Associação Pentágono Urbano and City Administration of Zrenjanin, discovering that the real accessibility challenge is not building ramps or deploying digital tools. It is building governance systems that place people at the very centre of urban development.

The story of Komotini undelines that transformative urban change often starts with a simple but powerful role shifting game: placing the ones experiencing barriers every day in designing the solutions needed.

URBACT CALL Accessible Cities for ALL asks from the city practitioners not solely designing streets, parks, or transportation systems but co-shaping solutions, enhance participation, and increase the sense of belonging for all.

I hope this article contributes to the growing conversation on how European cities can move from accessibility as compliance to accessibility as culture.
